Echoes of Exclusion: Asian American History and Contemporary Immigration Justice A Webinar with Prof. Mary Lui


By examining the "long history" of American immigration policy, she will address whether what we see today is a modern anomaly or a continuation of deep-seated historical patterns. The discussion will specifically contrast the current actions of ICE and the administration against past precedents to help us understand the evolution and persistence of immigration injustice in the United States.


Mary Lui is Professor of American Studies and History and is affiliated with Ethnicity, Race, and Migration and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.  Her primary research interests include: Asian American history, urban history, women and gender studies, and public history. She is the author of The Chinatown Trunk Mystery: Murder, Miscegenation, and Other Dangerous Encounters in Turn-of-the-Century New York City (Princeton University Press, 2005).  Most recently, she is working on the history of Asian American…
